The inevitable result of loving God and receiving love from God, is an uncontainable desire to share who God is to others.
The most loving thing a Christian can do for another human, is to introduce them to the person of Jesus and the life transformation he brings. Christians do this both because they want to and because Jesus commanded it.
The last words we say before saying goodbye to someone who we won’t see for a long time, are usually very important words. Jesus said some very important words in his farewell address to his followers. Christians have come to know these words as ‘the Great Commission.’ This is what Jesus said:
“Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshipped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew chapter 28, verses 16-20
There are four things Jesus said:
- “Go”
- “Make disciples”
- “Baptising them”
- “Teaching them”
At Christ Church Thornton, our desire is to share our faith in order to see people come into a living relationship with God. Our task is to be intentional in doing this (“go”) to be active in doing this (“make disciples”) to offer visual symbols of the inward change God brings (“baptising them”) and to offer all sorts of way to help people grow in their journey of faith (“teaching them”).
