What is Alpha?

Here at Christ Church we love to explore who God is, whether it’s for the first time or the umpteenth time. We run something called Alpha. It’s run all over the globe. It’s a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith, typically run several months. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha consists of three ingredients: a talk, cake and good conversation. At the bottom of this page are the details of how to book.

Talk

The talks are designed to engage and inspire conversation. They explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions from Who is Jesus? and How can we have faith? to Why and how do I pray? and How does God guide us?

Discussion

Probably the most important part of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic, and simply discuss it in a small group. There’s no obligation to say anything and there’s nothing you can’t say (seriously). It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment.

Give it a try

The next Alpha starts on Thursday 16th April 2026 at 7:30 PM in the Community Centre Hall. It will take place weekly until the begining of July. You can book your free place using this link HERE. You only need to book once for the whole course. By coming once, you are under no obligation to come to the whole course – although we’re confident you will enjoy the first session.
