Weekly News on Saturday 3 December 2022

Dear Church Community,

Hello everyone,

What a week it’s been at Christ Church! We’ve had lots going on. It was good to have a visit from the local Beavers group, who kindly brought some food donations to Church for the Food Pantry and at the same time asked some very impressive questions about faith, church and God. The Fridaymen enjoyed their Christmas meal out, Ye Merry Meadows Carollers enjoyed their final gathering before singing at services and events. Today the Arts & Crafts Fayre took place – thank you to all who made it happen. This afternoon Christ Church Thornton Football Club enjoyed their fourth victory in a row, winning 4-1 against Quernmore in the Sports Reach Cup. We’re safely on our way to the semi-finals. Thanks to those who came to support us today, on a very fresh afternoon!

Now let’s look to tomorrow, as we come together to worship the Lord…

THE LORD PROVIDES!

——————————-

What a blessing it was last Sunday to have Rev Steve Haskett with us from the Life Association. It was humbling to hear of the work taking place in India, bringing the gospel to children living in such poverty. The Church Council of Christ Church Thornton gave a cheque to the Life Association for £2,500, to support the work. This donation was made possible due to the generous giving of the congregation Sunday by Sunday. Of everything that is given the Church Council follows the biblical principle of tithing. In our first year of doing this we set aside 3% of the giving, in order to bless mission partners across the world to enable them to continue their Christian ministry and mission. In 2023 the tithe will be increased to 5%, gradually working towards our aim of 10% in the years to come. The money set aside each year will be used to help our Global Mission Partners. We are aiming for three partners in total, the first of which is the Life Association.

TREE LIGHTING SERVICE

——————————-

On Sunday 4th December at 5:00 PM we are looking forward to lighting up the Christmas tree in the car park. We’ll be joined by Bispham Silver Band and Ye Merry Meadows Carollers. There will be carols around the outdoor tree and lovely mince pies and hot chocolate in the Community Centre Hall afterwards. And, we might have a surprise visitor! A fun occasion for all ages. The tree lighting will be a moment of excitement for children! Wrap up warm! One child from the Treehouse service will be given the special job of pressing the button to turn on the lights. Who will it be!

CHRISTMAS SERVICES AND EVENTS

——————————-

Thank you to the volunteers who kindly walked the streets to deliver 2,000 leaflets this week! If you haven’t received the leaflet yet, we have lots in Church to give out during the week and on a Sunday. You can also download it using this this link HERE. Do make note of all that’s taking place – put things in your diary!

To finish our weekly news tonight, here is the special prayer (the ‘collect’) for this coming Sunday…

BLESSED Lord, who hast caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning: Grant that we may in such wise hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that by patience and comfort of thy holy Word, we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which thou hast given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. AMEN.

With love and blessings,

Damian
