Weekly News on Saturday 24 September 2022

Dear Church Community,

Hello everyone,

I sincerely hope an abundance of people will gather together tomorrow to worship and listen to God. In our Bible passage tomorrow (1 Timothy chapter 6), Paul gives instructions to his friend and student Timothy about proper Christian conduct and the avoidance of evil. He warns about the dangers of greed and materialism. He goes on to urge Timothy to ‘fight the good fight of the faith’ and to ‘take hold of eternal life.’ We’ll be looking at those things in more detail tomorrow because they are very relevant for living as a Christian in the world today. What a wonderful thing it is as Christians to know we can ‘take hold of eternal life’!

Might you consider inviting a friend, neighbour or family member to Church this coming Sunday?

SCREEN DURING WORSHIP

——————————-

Thank you for all your positive comments about the new large screen in Church to aid our participation in worship. The project isn’t yet complete as some electrical works are still needed. Once those works are done there will be one smaller screen positioned on each side aisle to benefit those who prefer to sit in those areas.

NEW GROWTH GROUP ON A TUESDAY EVENING

——————————-

Starting on Tuesday 27th September, there will be an additional ‘Growth Group’ which will meet at the Pilgrim’s Rest in the Chapel, beginning at with refreshments at 7:45 PM. The meeting will finish at 9:15 PM. We already have a Growth Group on a Monday evening at 7:45 PM and on a Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM. Each group is identical in the content and format. So if you’d like to join one, choose the one which has the date and time which suits you best. At each Growth Group there is Bible teaching and discussion. They are a good way to meet other Christians and form new friendships. For any who would like the option, there will be a ‘zoom’ link on a Tuesday evening, to enable those who might struggle to attend in-person to be part of a midweek Growth Group. For more information, email or chat to me.

CHRISTMAS DAY COMMUNITY DINNER

——————————-

For several years we have provided a Christmas Day Dinner for any in the local community who would otherwise be spending it alone. Once again we will be doing it this year. For those who would like to be part of the team to make it happen, there will be an initial planning meeting on Thursday 6th October at 7:30 PM in the Community Centre Hall. If you can attend, do please let me know. If you would like to know more about what happens and what sort of help is needed, just have a chat with me, with Lauren, or with Judith. If you or someone you know is going to be alone on Christmas Day, please know you are most welcome to come and enjoy a proper Christmas Dinner with all the trimmings, in the surroundings of a decorated Hall, with entertainment and everything you’d expect of a Christmas Day Dinner. And, we will watch the King’s Christmas Day Speech at 3:00 PM on the big screen!

ONE VOICE COMMUNITY CHOIR

——————————-

For our next concert we’re looking forward to welcoming ‘One Voice Community Choir.’ You may have seen them on TV! They were finalists in the 2013 and 2019 BBC Songs of Praise Gospel Choir of the Year, and in the 2014 Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod. The concert is taking place on Friday 14th October at 7:00 PM in Church. £7 per person payable on the door – the price includes refreshments at the interval.

THE BIBLE COURSE

——————————-

Starting on Sunday 16th October is the Bible Course. The Bible Course offers a superb overview of the world’s best-selling book. The course will increase your confidence, equip you to read the Bible better and help you to see its relevance to daily life. Over eight weeks, it combines video teaching, group discussion, personal reflection and daily readings. It will take place in the Chapel in-between the Sunday morning services, running from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM. So this means if you normally come to the 9:00 AM service, you can stay on a little longer for the course. Or if you normally come to the 11:00 AM service, you can turn up earlier and take part in the course before worship at 11:00 AM. Refreshments will be provided in the Chapel whilst the course is taking place. Places for the course are limited to 12 people. To book your place, please send me an email.

HELP NEEDED

——————————-

At one of the midweek outreach activities we are in need of someone to operate a computer for 45 minutes to put words on the big screen. Might you be able to serve God in this way? If so, please get in touch. It is easy to pick up how to do it and full training can be given.

Yours in His service,

Damian
