Dear Church Community,
Tomorrow we remember those who sacrificed their freedom for ours. We will honour those who served in World Wars past as well as praying for those who serve in the present to protect our freedom, safety, land and laws.
There will be a public service at the Thornton War Memorial at Four Lane Ends which I will be leading. The Parade will commence from the Little Theatre Car Park at 10:45 AM for a short service at the War Memorial. Those wishing to attend the service can assemble near to the War Memorial (roads will be temporarily closed). Representatives of the Council, the Royal British Legion, ex servicemen and women, youth organisations, community groups and schools will be laying wreaths.
Here at Christ Church, the 9:00 AM service will take place as usual, with the 11:00 AM service brought forward to the earlier time of 10:45 AM, which Peter and Paul will be taking.
The services and activities on Sunday 13th November are:
- 9:00 AM Traditional (Book of Common Prayer) Service of Holy Communion (with refreshments afterwards)
- 10:45 AM Remembrance Service with Holy Communion LIVE streamed(with refreshments afterwards)
- 5:00 PM Treehouse Family Worship (in Church and the Community Centre Hall)
- with ‘Clubhouse‘ for primary school-aged children in the Community Centre Hall
- and young people are invited to their own activities and discussion in the Chapel
If you’re unable to attend due to health and mobility, please be assured we continue to livestream our main 11:00 AM service. It can be viewed on our YouTube channel HERE and our Facebook channel HERE.
The passage we will be looking at in the service is Luke 21.5-19 (Church Bible page 880). You can read the passage online HERE.

ACT OF REMEMBRANCE
At the 10:45 AM service there will be an Act of Remembrance for those who died in time of war. We will remember with gratitude those who in
the cause of peace died for their country in time of war. A poppy wreath will be placed on the war memorial at the rear of Church and the names of those who died in war who lived in the parish will be read out.
REST IN PEACE
Reverend Andy Shaw
Reverend Andy Shaw, Vicar of the Over Wyre Benefice, died on Monday 7th November, aged 68. Andy has been battling cancer in recent years. Before being ordained Andy was a tremendous servant of the Lord here at Christ Church Thornton in lay ministry, especially in his ministry to young people. He was instrumental in starting various youth groups and his impact on making disciples of young people is still spoken of today. Upon ordination Andy served his curacy at St. Peter’s in Fleetwood before moving to be Vicar of the Over Wyre Benefice. His funeral will be on Friday 18th November, 10:30 AM at St. John’s Church Pilling. Please do pray for his wife Judith and their children.
Mrs Voirrey Wardle died on Sunday 23rd October following a long illness. She worshipped at Christ Church Thornton for many years before moving to St. Andrew’s Cleveleys. Her husband Keith has contacted me so that I can let the congregation know of her death and to give an invitation to Voirrey’s funeral. It will be on Tuesday 15th November at 1:00 PM at St. Andrew’s Church in Cleveleys. Please do pray for Keith and the family.
May they rest in peace and rise in glory.
