Tomorrow we remember those who sacrificed their freedom for ours. We will honour those who served in World Wars past as well as praying for those who serve in the present to protect our freedom, safety, land and laws.
There will be a public service at the Thornton War Memorial at Four Lane Ends which Damian and Andrew will be leading. The Parade will commence from the Little Theatre Car Park at 10:45 AM for a short service at the War Memorial. Those wishing to attend the service can assemble near to the War Memorial (roads will be temporarily closed). People usually start to gather at Four Lane Ends before or around 10:30 AM. Representatives of the Council, the Royal British Legion, ex servicemen and women, youth organisations, community groups and schools will be laying wreaths.
Here at Christ Church, the 9:00 AM service will take place as usual, with the 11:00 AM service brought forward to the earlier time of 10:45 AM, in order to hold an act of remembrance at 11:00 AM in Church.
Today in the Church and the Community Centre Hall, the Alpha day has taken place, with the those attending the course learning more about the Holy Spirit. Do read on through the email for news of the next Alpha course.
Earlier today over in Rossendale the men’s football team had their away match. “You can’t win em all” as they say – but most importantly it was a successful coming together with a group of men in their 20s, 30s (and 40s!) as part of our mission to share God’s love.
As we consider the sacrifice and commitment of all those past and present, let us also be praying for peace in the midst of current conflicts. Let us look to our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, who laid down his life to bring pardon for sin and a peace that endureth.

ALPHA SPRING TERM: VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We are having a fantastic time at Alpha this term, with over 20 guests attending each week to explore foundations of Christian faith. We are beginning to plan our spring term Alpha to build on that momentum.
Specific days and times are to be confirmed, but the plan is for this to be a weekday morning Alpha running between Playhouse and lunch (11:15 AM – 1:00 PM) from the week of Tuesday 9th January through to the week of Tuesday 23rd March.
We are hoping to run a small creche for 30 minutes each week during the video to enable parents and grandparents from Playhouse to attend.

FIRST AID TRAINING
Christ Church is hosting First Aid Training on the evening of Friday 26th April 2024 (Time TBC). This two hour training session covers basic first aid and is recommended to be refreshed every year. The session is open to anybody who wants to book and costs £26 per person (including £1 booking fee). The session is limited to 16 people, but we can arrange addition sessions if we fill up.

TREEHOUSE WEEKEND AWAY
We’re very pleased to announce the third Treehouse Weekend Away, which take place from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th October 2024. It will be at Thornleigh Christian Hotel at Grange-over-Sands. We hope to have all the accommodation at the Hotel in use just for the Treehouse congregation, with many families enjoying a weekend away growing in faith through worship, prayer, Bible teaching, alongside great food, walks out, and fun times together. A letter with more information will be available in due course. For now, keep those dates free if you’re interested in going.
For members of other congregations, a three-day stay at Thornleigh Hotel is also being planned for 2024. More details to follow when they are available.

There’s always lots of opportunities to get involved in the mission and ministry of the church and all our activities throughout the week, on evenings, and on Sundays are dependent on volunteers to operate. Volunteers help to set up and tidy up, provide refreshments, assist with (and in many cases run) activities, and keep our churchyard mowed and tidy.
