Weekly News on Friday 29 March 2024

Today is Good Friday when we remember that Jesus died on the cross for us. Today we have remembered the Easter story with children and families, remembering that Jesus came for all. We made a Walk of Witness to place the cross at Four Lane Ends in a Churches Together service with our brothers and sisters from across Thornton and then shared lunch and ice cream in the car park, remembering that through his death Jesus reconciled us not just to God, but to one another. Finally, we held a reflective service in Church recalling Jesus’ arrest and trial before he was led to the cross.

Tomorrow, Holy Saturday, is a day when we remember Jesus in the tomb before we celebrate His resurrection with great joy on Easter Sunday. But let’s not rush ahead to Sunday. Instead let’s take time today to reflect on the cross, and the sacrifice made, once and for all people.

Easter Day Celebration

The Easter Day Celebration is an opportunity to bring all the congregations together as one big church family. It will be carefully planned so as to incorporate aspects familiar to each congregation. There will be a mix of traditional and contemporary hymns. There will be liturgy from The Book of Common Prayer and modern sources. There will be some lovely refreshments on arrival in the Community Centre Hall, so as to give opportunity for coming together as a church family for conversation and deepening relationships with one another. Part-way during the service children of primary school age will be invited to attend their own age-appropriate teaching and activities. The service will culminate in remembering the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus as we receive holy communion together. After the service, there will be another opportunity for refreshments in the Community Centre Hall, if you have time to stay – however we appreciate some will need to be making tracks at this point.

The Easter Day Celebration starts at 10:00 AM and we aim to finish by 12:00 PM.

Volunteers Needed for Food Deliveries and The Pilgrim’s Rest

Are you available mid-week to help us provide food and hot drinks to our community?

We need volunteers to help with the food deliveries on a Tuesday and Friday lunchtime from 12 noon to 2pm. This is to help organize the freezers and shelves in preparation for the food delivery, help checking the stock levels, and put away the food delivery when it arrives.

We also need more volunteers to help run Pilgrim’s Rest on weekday mornings.  This involves setting up from 9:30 AM, serving teas and coffees, and being there to chat to people from 10:00 AM, and washing up afterwards from Noon.

Move & Chat

Move & Chat resumes on Friday 5th April.

Spring Clean

On Saturday 13th April from 9:00 AM to Noon we will be having a spring clean of the Church and Community Centre Hall. These regular cleaning days are essential in keeping the building clean and we really appreciate those who regularly volunteer. If you’ve never been before, why not give it a try? It’s a great way to meet people in church in other congregations, plus a chance to burn some of those Easter Egg calories! Please sign up HERE.

Each week includes a hot meal, a video, and discussion time with your spouse or spouse-to-be.

Serving in Church

There’s always lots of opportunities to get involved in the mission and ministry of the church and all our activities throughout the week, on evenings, and on Sundays are dependent on volunteers to operate. Volunteers help to set up and tidy up, provide refreshments, assist with (and in many cases run) activities, and keep our churchyard mowed and tidy.

Serving on a team is also a great way to get to know other members of the church family. If you don’t currently serve on a team at church and would like to, please do contact Damian or Andrew for a chat about where you might best fit.
