Weekly News on Friday 16 September 2022

Dear Church Community,

Hello everyone,

Good evening and blessings from Christ Church Thornton. This Sunday morning we will be commemorating the life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, with a special service at 11:00 AM, which will be slightly more traditional in style. The 9:00 AM service will also be commemorating the life of the Queen, however there will be a greater focus at the 11:00 AM service. At the 5:00 PM service, we’ll be thinking about the role of Kings and Queens in the Bible. We’ll be giving thanks for the Queen and worshipping the King which she served – the Lord Jesus Christ.

Might you consider inviting a friend, neighbour or family member to Church this coming Sunday?

YOUTH TOWN HALL

——————————-

This Sunday, Sunday 18th September at 6:30 PM in the Community Centre Hall, we will be holding an open meeting to share ideas about how to best serve our young people and welcome other young people from the parish into Church. This is a chance to hear our vision for a Sunday night youth cafe, as well as share your views and experiences of church as a young person. Food will be served including pizza, hash browns, toast and hot chocolate! Please email andrew@christchurchthornton.uk to let Andrew know you are coming, and to express a pizza topping preference! Or just turn up on the night. Young people and their parents and potential helpers are all welcome.

NEW GROWTH GROUP ON A TUESDAY EVENING

——————————-

Starting on Tuesday 27th September, there will be an additional ‘Growth Group’ which will meet at the Pilgrim’s Rest in the Chapel, beginning at with refreshments at 7:45 PM. The meeting will finish at 9:15 PM. We already have a Growth Group on a Monday evening at 7:45 PM and on a Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM. Each group is identical in the content and format. So if you’d like to join one, choose the one which has the date and time which suits you best. At each Growth Group there is Bible teaching and discussion. They are a good way to meet other Christians and form new friendships.

For any who would like the option, there will be a ‘zoom’ link on a Tuesday evening, to enable those who might struggle to attend in-person to be part of a midweek Growth Group. For more information, email or chat to me.

THE BIBLE COURSE

——————————-

Starting on Sunday 16th October is the Bible Course. The Bible Course offers a superb overview of the world’s best-selling book. The course will increase your confidence, equip you to read the Bible better and help you to see its relevance to daily life. Over eight weeks, it combines video teaching, group discussion, personal reflection and daily readings. It will take place in the Chapel in-between the Sunday morning services, running from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM. So this means if you normally come to the 9:00 AM service, you can stay on a little longer for the course. Or if you normally come to the 11:00 AM service, you can turn up earlier and take part in the course before worship at 11:00 AM. Refreshments will be provided in the Chapel whilst the course is taking place. Places for the course are limited to 12 people. To book your place, please send me an email.

——————————-

And finally, a reminder that on Monday 19th September we will be showing on the big screen in Church the funeral service of the Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. In the Community Centre Hall, the funeral service will also be shown on the big screen, enabling anyone attending with a young child/children to treat the Hall as a creche area, where toys and baby mats and sofas will be available.

The funeral service starts at 11:00 AM. The TV coverage will have a build-up before 11:00 AM. Therefore we intend to show the TV coverage on the big screens from 9:00 AM onwards.

On Monday 19th September all normal activities and services are cancelled as an important mark of respect for the day of mourning. Church will be open from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM for the purpose of the funeral service and afterwards for quiet prayer and reflection.

God bless,

Damian
